The Poet 04:00
I've given everything I can Just to try to make this happen But you wouldn't even lift a hand As you watch our foundations cracking And oh Isn't it a shame You built me up so tall Just to take it all away And now it seems that hope Is something I've misplaced I left behind my soul To be blinded by my faith I'll always be there and don't you know it And don't you know it and don't you know it You say that you care but I hate the way you show it I hate the way ya I hate the way ya show it Consumed by regrets you bestow it You bestow it Taking half of my heart to make me twice the poet I've given up on who I am I blamed myself to bridge the gap in I find it hard to understand Why should I question myself for the answers I'm lacking And oh Isn't it a shame I left behind my soul To be blinded by my faith I'll always be there and don't you know it And don't you know it and don't you know it You say that you care but I hate the way you show it I hate the way ya I hate the way ya show it Consumed by regrets you bestow it You bestow it Taking half of my heart to make me twice the poet Oooo you know it And don't you know it and don't you know it You say that you care but I hate the way you show it I hate the way ya I hate the way ya show it Consumed by regrets you bestow it You bestow it Taking half of my heart to make me twice the poet Make me twice the

So Close 04:20
Oh If you wanted to You'd shine a little light into our eyes Inspire us and give a little time Let the seeds grow in our jungle minds So close You can't live off loose change boy Gotta let it rain for a parade Work till you feel that strain uh Provide repeat remain And I think it's time we see a change As you bleach young minds and leave blank stains Aspirations bound by chains Our hearts will never beat the same So close Yet so far Misguided by the doubts that eat you up Don't aim too high Don't aim too low They say the sky's the limit Yet prohibit what they've sold Ohh And it's down to you To guide us and inspire us to try To question us and make us reach for why Let our imagination run wild A stone's throw we're So close You've gotta work through that pain girl Gotta keep a smile on that pretty face Oo and when you've worked till you're drained oh You won't be paid the same And I think it's time we see a change As you bleach young minds and leave blank stains Aspirations bound by chains Our hearts will never beat the same And I think it's time we see a change As you bleach young minds and leave blank stains Aspirations bound by chains Our hearts will never beat the same And I think it's time we see a change As you bleach young minds and leave blank stains Aspirations bound by chains Our hearts will never beat the same

Eyes Closed 03:03
How can I stick it out Eyes closed How can I stick it out Why am I here Drawn behind the curtains so near Everything is ordered by time Everything is ordered by time And how could I fear A fate of which I have no idea Pay the price and answer your crime Pay the price and answer your How can I stick it out With my eyes closed Watching time ticking up What do you know Tryna figure out what I can There's no hope So how can I stick it out With my eyes closed Did I ever do you wrong We always used to get along But now your look's so cold It's chilling me down to the bone I thought that you'd miss me How could this ever come to be I thought that you cared I thought that you cared I thought that you cared I thought that you cared I thought that you cared I thought that you cared I thought that you cared I thought that you cared I thought that you cared I thought that you How can I stick it out With my eyes closed Watching time ticking up What do you know Tryna figure out what I can There's no hope So how can I stick it out With my eyes closed

Headspace 05:04
Time flies Living lies Lay me down Strip my eyes Drips and lines Drowning flys Hang me up Pin the crime I don't wanna play There's moments I get locked in my own cage Knocked down by a crave Fractured all the weeks fade into days Censoring a face Muffled words caught up in a parade Broken and dismayed Clearing out the rubble with a rake When I concede As the life drains from my face I never wanted things to be this way And all that I need Is the drive to try escape But I'm lost drifting off in my headspace I don't wanna play There's moments I get locked in my own cage Knocked down by a crave Fractured all the weeks fade into days Censoring a face Muffled words caught up in a parade Broken and dismayed Clearing out the rubble with a rake When I concede As the life drains from my face I never wanted things to be this way And all that I need Is the drive to try escape But I'm lost drifting off in my headspace When I concede As the life drains from my face I never wanted things to be this way And all that I need Is the drive to try escape But I'm lost drifting off in my headspace

about

Into the Sun examines one key core idea: change. The four main songs all reflect different aspects of change: Accepting it, Embracing it, Correcting its path, and the consequences of rejecting change entirely.

The Poet explores how songwriters often write their best songs when heartbroken, “Taking half of my heart, to make me twice the poet”. I wrote this song after an incredibly tough breakup, when I was hit by the realisation that I had lost myself because I was still holding out hope that things would return back to how they used to be, “I left behind my soul to be blinded by my faith”. There is no malice or contempt in this song but instead recognition that even if you'll always care for someone, it's healthy to accept change and allow yourself to heal.

So Close focuses on the issues within modern society speaking out about toxic masculinity, the gender pay gap and flaws within our education system. I feel like our education system is the catalyst to why a lot of these issues exist – young girls not having the confidence to go into male dominated industries, boys feeling pressured to pursue high-pressure careers and fill the outdated role of a 'breadwinner', and the creativity crisis where our creative arts are hugely underfunded and considered as hobbies rather than serious job prospects, “they say the sky’s the limit, yet prohibit what they’ve sold”. It’s an empowering song about how we need to embrace change to make the world a better place.

Eyes Closed is about feeling isolated and overwhelmed – like it's you against the world and nobody wants to help. When you don't know why or how something has happened, it's really important that you make the effort to debunk misinformation and understand what's happening before reacting. At first, it can feel like running blind into a situation, hence the title Eyes Closed. Sometimes change isn’t for the best and you need to correct its path.

Headspace is a very sad song revolving around the final thoughts rushing through an addict's head before they die from an overdose. Addiction is a daily struggle for millions people across the world and yet it's also one of the loneliest. It can get to a point where you become so overwhelmed and consumed by intrusive thoughts that you block out any attempts to reach out and help because everything feels so hopeless, “censoring a face, muffled words caught up in a parade”. It's a melancholy tale about the dangers of rejecting change.

Through and through, ‘Into the Sun’ is a metaphor about our journey through life, and the decisions we make or reject. Sometimes change can hurt – as coming too close to the sun would – but it’s important to keep an open mind to help you grow into a better person. You’re always better off crashing into the sun than you are losing yourself in empty space.
